MIAMI, Okla. –
Former Miami High School principal Pamela Couch-Bevis is accused of giving a group of four male students a box containing a sex toy at the school, according to Miami police.
Officers say the case involves four male students, all of whom were minors at the time of the incident.
Police say the incident happened Aug. 25 when the students went to Couch-Bevis’ office to retrieve the school’s mascot costume.
According to an affidavit, Couch-Bevis gave one of the students a box and repeatedly told him to open it. Police say the student eventually pulled a sex toy from the box.
The students then reported the incident to their coach, according to investigators.
Police say the sex toy had previously been found stuck to a wall in a boys’ bathroom and was seized by Couch-Bevis the previous school year.
During an Aug. 27 interview with detectives, Couch-Bevis acknowledged giving the student the box and described the incident as a joke, according to the affidavit.
Police say Couch-Bevis told detectives there was no intent to do anything involving a student. She also said she may have intended to use the item as a white elephant gift.
According to the affidavit, Couch-Bevis said the item had been placed in a box and stored in a closet in her office after it was found in the bathroom.
Couch-Bevis was arrested facing charges of distribution or furnishing of obscene material to minors.
Miami Public Schools placed her on paid administrative leave on Aug. 26 as the investigation began.
