Martin County High School student arrested for false bomb threat at school
A 15-year-old Martin County High School sophomore was arrested for making a false bomb threat, according to the sheriff’s office.
STUART, Fla. —
The Martin County Sheriff’s Office announced on Tuesday, Sept. 22, that it arrested a 15-year-old Martin County High School student in connection with a false bomb threat made against the school.
The sheriff’s office said its school resource officers and criminal investigations division traced the originator of the message back to the 15-year-old student, who is a sophomore at the school.
WPBF 25 News is not publishing the name of the suspect because the student is under the age of 18 and has not been charged as an adult.

The sheriff’s office said the student confessed to sending the hoax threat. The student is facing a charge of false report concerning the planting of a bomb, which is a second-degree felony.
“This arrest follows multiple hoax bomb threats involving schools in our area over the past several weeks. Each threat is taken seriously and requires a significant response from law enforcement and emergency personnel, regardless of whether the threat ultimately proves to be a hoax,” the sheriff’s office said.
It added that the suspect was only linked to the threat to the high school on Tuesday, Sept. 22.
“The Sheriff’s Office will thoroughly investigate these incidents and aggressively pursue those responsible when the investigation provides sufficient evidence to identify them.
To anyone who thinks sending a threat anonymously, by text, online or through another form of electronic communication will automatically protect you from being identified and charged: that is not a safe assumption.
These are not jokes, and will be treated as the crimes that they are.”
