TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – People in Tallahassee are mourning the loss of a beloved staple in the city’s restaurant community.
George Koikos died this week. He was the longtime owner of Georgio’s, with a deep culinary history in the city. Well-known names like Bobby Bowden and John Thrasher were among those who would visit his restaurant.
Georgio’s Executive Chef, Grant Beane, reflected on his friend’s life.
“Bowden and Ann was always here. Always coming in. Always went out and greeted him. Just talking to him, saying hi. He always said, How you doing, young man,” Beane said.
“Did not matter how much older I got. That was another thing George was always talking about: ‘You were so young.’ Always a pleasure to be around. Just loved him so much. Going to miss him so much.”
Koikos immigrated from Greece and started working with his brother in Tallahassee. He later opened several restaurants, including the Spartan, Brothers Three and of course Georgio’s.
