TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Florida A&M University said it is disappointed that students will not get the chance to hear from Florida’s candidates for governor in a televised debate on the Tallahassee campus this election season.

In a statement, the university said student interest in hearing directly from the candidates “remains strong.” FAMU said its Student Government Association has invited all candidates for governor to engage with students ahead of the Nov. 3 general election, with each candidate offered “an equal opportunity to share their platform, priorities and vision for our state.”

FAMU said its students “represent a pivotal part of Florida’s future,” describing the university as an 1890 land-grant institution “built on a covenant to fuel Florida’s workforce pipeline.” The university said it expects to be “a critical partner in the next Governor’s success” and looks forward to welcoming candidates who accept the invitation, giving students “a direct voice in this important civic dialogue.”
