Key Biscayne’s Village Council candidate race is down to four qualifiers for three open seats after Claire London decided to step aside from the Nov. 3 election.
In a statement to Islander News on Friday, she said, “I would like to thank all the amazing people that have supported my campaign to run for Council. I was actually overwhelmed with the kind support and words of encouragement.”
“We live in a wonderful community, the best, that we all love and care about, and it has been an uplifting experience to see and feel the community commitment to our Village. I feel honored to be a part of this and will continue to help and be involved.
“But, I realize that in order to be a good Council member and do the job 110% the way I would, it would take valuable time away from my husband, Ed London who, he himself, has served loyally for three terms (and is termed out on Nov. 3). He deserves his wife at his side at this point in his life.
“Thank you for understanding and being so supportive. Let’s keep Key Biscayne wonderful and beautiful!”
The four remaining candidates are four-year incumbents Vice Mayor Oscar Sardiñas and Councilman Fernando Vazquez, and new challengers Luis de la Cruz and Silvia Tarafa.
Residents can get a detailed look at their projected plans for Key Biscayne and their election platform during a special debate presented by Islander News and the Key Biscayne Chamber of Commerce on Thursday, Oct. 1, at 6 p.m. in the Council Chambers. Seating is limited but it will be shown on VKB-TV.
London says she wants to spend more time with her husband, outgoing Council member Ed London.
