The Harvest Moon is the name commonly attributed to the full moon that occurs closest to the autumn equinox in the Northern Hemisphere. What is the autumn equinox, you ask? It’s one of two times in the year when the sun is exactly above the equator, marking the official start of the fall season.
The name originates from farmers being able to gather crops into the night, thanks to the moonlight after the sun had set.
