INDIANTOWN, Fla. (WFLA) — A woman ended up behind bars on Wednesday after she was caught with a substantial load of contraband while attempting to make a drop at a state prison, according to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office said that 31-year-old Makia Lashay Shivers was outside of the Martin Correctional Institution when she was reported as a suspicious person.
MCSO deputies responded and arrested Shivers after, they said, she was found with a large amount of contraband including 464 grams of methamphetamine, K2/THC, 37 cellphones, cigarettes, several bottles of alcohol, cell phone chargers, and various other paraphernalia.
Deputies said Shivers told them that two Broward County men had convinced her to come to the prison and help make the drop.
Shivers said she became scared and ran at which point the two men fled the area, leaving Shiver’s behind holding the bags of contraband.
The Martin County Sheriff’s Office has charged Shivers with trafficking in methamphetamine, burglary of an unoccupied structure, possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, and introduction of contraband into a state prison facility.
