CHAMBER TO HOST BUSINESS LUNCHEON
The SanCap Chamber will hold its business luncheon meeting on Nov. 19 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the ‘Tween Waters Inn & Marina, at 15951 Captiva Drive, Captiva.
The program will be “Resilient Rebuilding,” with a panel of five local experts discussing best build-back measures for businesses and smart hurricane recovery planning. Moderated by Jeff Muddell, they are Dan Adams, Scot Burris, Rudi Hamer, Toni Lapi and Paula McMichael.
An LEED-accredited contractor, Adams joined Stevens Construction in 2011 and since then has become a key leader known for delivering complex projects on time and budget. He earned his building construction degree from the University of Florida.
Chief executive officer of Storm Smart, Burris combines expertise in operations, business development and finance to lead the hurricane protection manufacturer. A North Carolina State graduate and Harvard Executive Education alumnus, she drives innovation and growth in the construction materials industry.
Hamer brings over 25 years of experience of commercial and residential lending experience, along with a background in insurance. In 2017, she joined the staff of Sanibel Captiva Community Bank, where she originates commercial loans and develops new relationships.
President and chief executive officer of ‘Tween Waters, Lapi grew a small inn into a 137-room, 13-acre full-service resort — the first to reopen on the islands after Hurricane Ian. A dedicated community leader, he has chaired VISIT FLORIDA and served on the Lee County Tourist Development Council.
A certified planner with degrees from Smith College in Massachusetts and Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, McMichael has led private and public projects across South Florida, specializing in land use, workforce housing, redevelopment and sustainability.
Simple Social is sponsoring the luncheon.
The cost is $35 for attendees.
Registration is required by Nov. 14 at 5 p.m. at sanibel-captiva.org or by contacting Aaron Walton at aaron@sanibel-captiva.org or 239-472-8759. Payment is due at the time of registration.

BANK UNDERWRITES SCCF ANNUAL REPORT
Bank of the Islands reported that it underwrote publication of the Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation’s (SCCF) Annual Report for fiscal year 2024-25.
The report will cover activities and accomplishments from July 1, 2024, through June 30.
It was set to arrival in island mailboxes on Nov. 10.
The report includes an underwriting statement from Edison National Bank/Bank of the Islands Chief Executive Officer Geoffrey W. Roepstorff that reads, in part:
“Moving forward together from the challenges we have faced on Sanibel and Captiva, the positive qualities evident in our island community have never been stronger. When it comes to SCCF in particular, their commitment to science-based policies and programs, strong and inclusive leadership, and effective partnerships has put our community on a resilient path forward.”
NEW BEACH BUCKET STATION AT SUNDIAL
The Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation’s (SCCF) Coastal Watch announced that the Sundial Beach Resort & Spa on Sanibel is its first hospitality partner for its beach bucket program.
The resort’s support not only provides a high-visibility location for the beach buckets, but also signals to guests that sustainability is integral to the island experience.
Through the new partnership, Coastal Watch will be able to help keep the beaches even cleaner by giving guests the tools to pick up trash.
In addition, each bucket has a QR code to a survey that participants can report what types of trash they collected and how much. The responses will help the SCCF’s policy team inform lawmakers about pollution in the environment.
