LARGO, Fla. (WFLA) — One person died after an RV camper caught fire in a Largo neighborhood early on Sunday, officials said.

A spokesperson for the Pinellas Park Police Department said the fire occurred on Tree Street in Largo, which mainly consists of mobile and manufactured homes as well as RVs.

Fires can spread much faster in these types of homes due to their lighter construction materials and tighter spaces, according to safety tips shared by Miami-Dade County.

The camper was parked in the yard of one of the homes, and the fire caused minor damage to neighboring structures.

Pinellas Park fire rescue crews responded to the residence at around 1:45 a.m. on Sept. 27, PPPD said. Largo and Seminole fire rescue assisted in the response.

The victim was found dead inside the camper after the fire was extinguished, the police department said. Two other people were evaluated at the scene and declined further treatment.

The person has not been identified publicly as officials work to notify their next of kin.

At this time, the cause of the fire is believed to be accidental. The State Fire Marshal will conduct a formal investigation to determine the cause.
