FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (CBS12) — Two men are facing attempted felony murder charges after police say they forced their way into a Fort Lauderdale Airbnb, sparking a shootout with the armed renter.
Fort Lauderdale police said 18-year-old Dareon Pubien and 25-year-old Sean Thompson broke into the home near Northwest 19th Avenue and Eighth Street Thursday evening in an attempt to rob it.
Officers say the renter was armed, too.
Police said an altercation broke out inside the home before the renter shot Pubien in the upper torso. Investigators are treating the shooting as self-defense, according to police.

Arthur Butler Jr., who lives across from the Airbnb, told CBS Miami he heard multiple gunshots.
“Maybe at least 10, and then everybody was running,” Butler Jr. said.
He said the home had been used as an Airbnb for about two years and that this was the first time he had seen violence there.
Police said a trail of blood led officers around the corner, where they found Pubien. He was taken to Broward Health Medical Center and underwent surgery. He was in critical but stable condition, according to CBS Miami. Thompson was also located and arrested.
He appeared in Broward County court Friday and faces attempted felony murder and home invasion with a firearm charges. A judge ordered him held without bond.
Police said Pubien will face the same charges once he is released from the hospital.
