An Airbnb renter shot a teenager who allegedly attempted to break into a Florida home.
At approximately 6 p.m. local time on Thursday, Sept. 24, police responded to reports of an attempted robbery and found a man shot in the upper torso when they arrived at the scene, NBC 6 South Florida and CBS Miami reported.
According to the outlets, the Fort Lauderdale Police Department (FLPD) said two armed men broke into an Airbnb and got into an altercation with the renter, who then shot one of the suspects — identified as 18-year-old Dareon Pubien — in the chest.
Pubien then fled the scene on foot, but police later found him bleeding from his wounds near the home, per NBC 6 South Florida and CBS Miami.

The shooting is currently being investigated as a self-defense case, CBS Miami reported.
The renter who shot the suspect has not been publicly identified.
Local resident Arthur Butler Jr. told CBS Miami he heard “at least 10” gunshots coming from the house at the time of the incident.
“It started off shooting inside the house, then it came out … everybody was running,” he said.
“They were trying to get over the gate, then they couldn’t get in the gate, then they went around the side and got in, but I didn’t know what was going on,” Butler also told NBC 6 South Florida. “They walked up, I don’t know where they came from … I didn’t see anything … I just heard the shots.”
PEOPLE reached out to Airbnb, the FLPD and the Broward County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) for comment on Sunday, Sept. 27, but did not receive immediate responses.
