PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (CBS12) — A 44-year-old Port St. Lucie man was arrested after police said he called 911 and admitted to stabbing a 79-year-old man during a domestic-related incident Saturday night.
Police said Cartavion Jermaine Merritt called 911 about 11:01 p.m. to report a stabbing inside a home in the 11200 block of Northwest Blockbird Drive.
According to Port St. Lucie police, Merritt told dispatchers he used two knives to stab the victim in the chest and wanted to kill him. He also told dispatchers the two men were the only people inside the home and that he had put the knives in the kitchen sink.
Body-camera video released by police shows officers arriving in the neighborhood, establishing a perimeter and escorting a man away from the home.
Police said Merritt exited the house about eight minutes after the 911 call and was taken into custody without incident.
Once officers entered, they found the 79-year-old victim with multiple apparent stab wounds to his upper chest, police said. Officers and paramedics provided emergency care before the victim was flown to HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital as a trauma alert.

The victim was later reported stable but intubated, police said.
Investigators said they found two knives in the kitchen sink and blood on bedsheets in a bedroom, where they determined the stabbing occurred. Police said Merritt later told detectives that he intended to kill the victim.
Merritt was arrested on charges of attempted second-degree murder without premeditation and aggravated battery on a person 65 or older, both domestic-related charges.
