NORTH FORT MYERS, Fla. (WINK) — The Florida Governmental Utility Authority issued a boil water advisory for the Lake Fairways Country Club Community after a planned outage to repair a faulty valve and fire hydrant.
The FGUA notified residents of a temporary shutdown of services to complete repairs. Every effort will be made to complete the work as timely as possible and restore services, according to a press release.

Once repairs are completed and services restored, affected customers will be under a boil water advisory and notified by a call or text notification. The outage impacts 970 customers, according to the FGUA.
As a precaution, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advise that all water used for drinking and cooking be boiled. The CDC indicates that a rolling boil for a period of one minute is sufficient to render water free of bacteria, viruses and protozoa.
Bottled water may be used as an alternative. Water samples will be taken and submitted to a Florida Department of Health-certified laboratory, according to FGUA.
The advisory will be rescinded once water samples indicate the water is safe to drink, by Wednesday, September 30.
