TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Yield, pick the correct lane — and don’t stop once you’re inside.

The City of Tallahassee has produced a new video showing drivers the proper way to navigate roundabouts, offering a visual refresher as the circular intersections become a more familiar part of driving around the Capital City.

The guidance emphasizes one of the most important rules: vehicles entering a roundabout must yield to traffic already circulating inside it. Drivers should slow down on approach, watch for pedestrians and other vehicles, and enter only when there is a safe opening.

For multilane roundabouts, motorists should also pay attention to signs and pavement markings before entering and select the appropriate lane for where they intend to exit. Leon County’s existing roundabout guidance also advises drivers to maintain a slow speed and signal when exiting. Leon County Government

Roundabouts are designed to keep vehicles moving at lower speeds while reducing some of the conflict points found at traditional intersections. The Federal Highway Administration and Florida Department of Transportation both provide driver education and safety resources for their use. FDOT

For drivers who still find themselves hesitating at the circle, the city’s message is straightforward:

Slow down. Yield to traffic already inside. Choose your lane before entering. Signal when exiting — and keep moving once you’re in.
