A man has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run crash that killed a 10-year-old girl who was riding an e-bike with her brother earlier this month in northwest Miami-Dade.
Arick Metayer, 33, was identified as the driver behind the wheel and charged with leaving the scene of a deadly crash and tampering with physical evidence, the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office announced Monday.
Payton Williams was killed in the Sept. 9 crash, while her brother, Brent, was seriously injured and hospitalized.

Officials said a driver was going north on Northwest 7th Avenue approaching Northwest 117th Street when they made a left turn and hit the children before fleeing.
The children were found on the roadway, unresponsive. They were transported to Ryder Trauma Center, where the young girl died.
Hundreds gathered at a vigil on Sept. 14 in honor of Payton and her brother.
“You hit somebody. You hit my kid, you didn’t stop,” the children’s mother, Shaniq, said at the time.
