Hollywood Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a person of interest in connection with two vehicle burglaries.
The burglaries happened on Sept. 5 shortly after midnight, near the Hollywood Beach Broadwalk and Thomas Street. Police did not say if anything was taken.
Cameras rolling outside the Marriott Hotel caught footage of a person in white pants carrying what looks like a white bag walking down the Broadwalk and passing the hotel’s outdoor dining area.
An employee who works at the hotel said he was surprised to hear what happened.
“I have never seen that guy before, and I’ve never seen him around here either,” he said. “Usually it’s a very easy, nice area. No incidents.”
One visitor staying in the area on vacation said it’s unsettling.
“That’s not good… People park their cars here, you know, like believing everything here is [a] good neighborhood,” he said.
Another video captures the same person on camera walking further down the Broadwalk.
A woman staying at the Marriott said she wasn’t surprised to hear about the burglaries, and that the area could use more light.
“There’s not a lot of lights. It’s dark at night,” she said. “This end of the boardwalk is a little creepy at night.”
Anyone with information about the investigation or who knows the identity of the person of interest is asked to contact the Hollywood Police Department at 954-764-4357 or 954-967-4411.
