RIVERVIEW, FL — An eleventh-grader at Riverview High School was arrested on Friday for bringing a weapon to campus, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

Though HCSO identified the suspect, it’s unknown whether the suspect is being charged as a juvenile or adult yet. It’s Patch policy to not name minors who are charged as juveniles.

After receiving a tip about a potential fight on campus and that the 16-year-old boy had a weapon on campus, school administration searched his backpack. They found a kitchen-style fixed blade in the bag, the sheriff’s office said.

During their investigation, detectives learned that the teen had threatened another boy over a girl.

He was charged with possession of a weapon on school property and disrupting school campus or function.
