JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – Jacksonville police are sharing more details about a crash that killed a motorcyclist yesterday.
Just after 4 p.m. Monday, officers said they found Karlos Darden was thrown from a motorcycle on Highway 17 south and 53 Bypass south. He died at the scene.
According to a police spokesperson, the 21-year-old was trying to merge across several lanes of traffic when he lost control and hit the guardrail to the right of the road.
His motorcycle rolled several times and threw Darden off before it stopped at the end of the ramp, the department said.
Police said speeding contributed to the crash.
