This week on The Big Gay Radio Show, Chris Gorman, Esmé Russell and Adam Ryan welcomed drag performer and producer Daphne Ferraro to discuss her career in drag and upcoming performances around Tampa Bay. To kick off the show, Chris, Esmé and Adam talked with Daphne about her more than 27 years as a drag performer, her role as show director at Enigma in St. Petersburg and the creation of Daphne’s Doos, her custom wig design company.
Daphne also discussed “A Little Hocus Pocus: A Drag Tribute Show,” featuring Daphne Ferraro alongside Kathryn Nevets and Chi Chi LaLique, and the upcoming performances at Stageworks Theatre and Zubrick Magic Theatre. Adam also shared his award-winning poem and talked about some of his upcoming events including PFLAG’s September Mystery Oreo Back-To-School Night and the Beyond Gender Conference.
The conversation then turned to some of the week’s biggest local and national headlines, including a toddler who pulled out a loaded gun at a Michigan daycare and the latest polling on President Donald Trump’s approval among Republican voters.
The team also discussed the first full-time drag king in the Drag Race franchise, a transgender radio DJ who quit live on air and the cancellation of an event promoted as the “Best MAGA Event” featuring Kid Rock and Dog the Bounty Hunter after low ticket sales.
On The Big Gay After Show, Chris Gorman, Esmé Russell and Adam Ryan continued with another round of the week’s biggest headlines.
The group discussed Judge Judy’s controversial statements, Kraft Dinner Cream Soda and a Gov. Ron DeSantis-appointed trial judge facing a public reprimand over a shooting comment. The After Show also covered a woman who said a man pleasured himself next to her on a flight from Rochester, the White House removing its Tetris-inspired “Build the Wall” game following a legal threat and a California sheriff who seized more than 650,000 ballots.
Other headlines included controversy surrounding the St. Paul mayor, who called herself a “MILF” and touched the city’s police chief on the thigh, and a fight over who would sit in the front seat that ended in gunfire. Chris, Esmé and Adam also discussed Macklemore’s “Free Palestine” tour, McDonald’s new GLP-1 menu, Harvey Weinstein, and more LGBTQIA+ news from Tampa Bay and beyond.
