TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) will begin issuing newly designed driver licenses and identification cards Wednesday.
The updated design will be available at service centers statewide starting Wednesday and available for online orders through the MyDMV Portal by early November, according to a press release.
Florida residents are not required to replace their existing driver licenses and identification cards. Current valid credentials will remain valid until they expire, according to the FLHSMV press release.

The new design features elements of Florida history, including Castillo de San Marcos as the background image and an orange in place of the “O” in the state’s name.
The bottom left corner of the card depicts the Florida manatee, and the state’s native alligator is incorporated into the REAL ID star at the top right-hand corner.
The back of the newly designed cards is an homage to Florida’s Space Coast with an image of Space Shuttle Discovery.
The redesign also includes the motto from Florida’s first unofficial state flag, “Let Us Alone.”
