PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (CBS12) — Two men are out of jail on bond after being arrested in two separate hit-and-run cases in Port St. Lucie this week, according to the Port St. Lucie Police Department.

In the first case, police said 23-year-old Giovanni Barthelemy hit a teenager riding an e-bike Wednesday near Southwest Roma Way and Southwest Lorenzo Way.

A security camera at a community entrance recorded the crash. Police said the video shows the driver trying to turn into the community, hitting the teen, then making a U-turn and driving away.

Police said the driver did not call 911 or stop to help. The teen was badly hurt and taken to HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital.

Police said the car’s owner later called 911 after the car came back home damaged. Police said the owner was not driving. Investigators then identified Barthelemy as the driver.

Barthelemy is charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving injuries. He was released on a $7,500 bond.

The second case began Tuesday, when officers with the department’s Traffic Unit tried to pull over a car near Southwest Becker Road and Southwest Hallmark Street.

Police said the driver took off and hit a traffic sign while getting away. Officers later found the car on Interstate 95 and arrested 19-year-old Christian Johnson.

Johnson is charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving property damage, reckless driving, and driving with a suspended or revoked license. He was released on a $12,500 bond.

In a statement about both arrests, the Port St. Lucie Police Department said drivers are legally required to stop, whether it’s for a traffic stop or after a crash.

“Fleeing from law enforcement or leaving the scene of a crash can have serious consequences,” the department said.
