The Tallahassee Immigrant Rights Alliance says three people were detained during an ICE operation at a local restaurant Sunday. The group condemned the enforcement action and called it part of increased immigration enforcement in Florida.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — A Tallahassee immigrant rights organization is condemning the arrest of three people by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement during an operation that ended at a local restaurant.
The Tallahassee Immigrant Rights Alliance said the enforcement action happened Sunday, Sept. 27, at Chile & Chili’s.
In a statement, the organization described those detained as members of the local community and accused ICE of creating fear among immigrant families.

Group says raid reflects broader enforcement increase
The alliance connected the Tallahassee operation to what it described as increased ICE activity across Florida.
“This ICE raid is just one of many that happen everyday in Tallahassee,” the organization said.
It also claimed tens of thousands of people have been detained by ICE in Florida since June.

The organization said enforcement activity has created “widespread fear and instability in immigrant communities” and called on residents to oppose the federal government’s immigration enforcement policies.
ICE responded to Fox 49’s request for information, with the following:
“ICE and the Florida Highway Patrol were conducting targeted immigration enforcement activities on September 25, 2026, when they attempted to make a vehicle stop on a white truck carrying a suspected illegal alien from Guatemala in the vicinity of West Tennessee Street. When officers initiated the vehicle stop, the driver pulled into the Chile & Chili’s Taqueria. All the occupants of the vehicle immediately bailed out of the vehicle and started running.
“ICE did not target the taqueria.
“Among those arrested were:

“Reginaldo Quej, an illegal alien from Guatemala, arrested after attempting to flee on foot during a vehicle stop by ICE and Florida Highway Patrol. He illegally entered the United States near Yuma, Arizona, on January 29, 2024. Quej was issued a final order of removal by an immigration judge on March 19, 2025. He will remain in ICE custody pending removal from the United States.

“If you are in the country legally, you have no reason to fear immigration enforcement. Resisting officers and evading arrest is dangerous for our officers, illegal aliens, and the public. These dangerous attempts to evade arrest come after sanctuary politicians held webinars and provided resources and tips for how to openly defy ICE:
“Being in detention is a choice. We encourage all illegal aliens to take control of their departure with the CBP Home App. The United States is offering illegal aliens $3,000 and a free flight to self-deport now. We encourage every person here illegally to take advantage of this offer and reserve the chance to come back to the U.S. the right legal way to live the American dream. If not, you will be arrested and deported without a chance to return.”
