JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – JEA customers will see higher bills starting Thursday as new electric, water and sewer rate increases take effect in Jacksonville.
JEA said the changes are needed to help address a projected $107 million budget shortfall and cover rising operating costs, infrastructure improvements and reliability upgrades.
The utility’s overall electric rate is increasing 6.2%, while water and sewer rates are rising 8%. For the average residential customer, JEA estimates the changes will mean paying about $2.41 more per month for electricity and $5.75 more for water and sewer service, depending on usage.

That adds up to roughly $8 more each month.
“We recognize this impact on our customers,” JEA spokesperson Myers Vasquez said. “We really want them to know there’s information out there to really understand how their usage can be managed.”
JEA encourages customers to use the bill estimator on its website or the MyJEA app. Customers can also request free energy and water assessments to identify ways to reduce usage.
Payment arrangements, extensions and financial assistance programs are available for customers who need help.
JEA also directs customers to call 211 for assistance.
