Lee County NAACP calls for Fort Myers mayor to resign amid sexual misconduct allegations
FORT MYERS, Fla. —
The Lee County NAACP is calling for Fort Myers Mayor Kevin Anderson to resign following allegations of sexual misconduct made by two men.
The mayor has already resigned from the board of directors for United Way Lee, Hendry, and Glades, as well as the boards of Valerie’s House and the Florida Gulf Coast University Alumni Association.
Body camera footage obtained by Gulf Coast News shows one of the accusers, Kagan Vann, speaking with a police officer in downtown Fort Myers about the mayor.
“I was with a guy that doesn’t want my name speaking. Because he’s a government official or something,” Vann said.
When asked by the officer if he knew the man personally, Vann said, “I thought I did. And then he just said a bunch of weird stuff… I told him I didn’t want to do stuff. And he got defensive.”
Vann accused the mayor of trying to drug him.
At the Fort Myers City Council meeting in September, where Vann brought forth the allegations, another man — 18-year-old Dominic Hendricks — accused Anderson of making inappropriate sexual comments.
Anderson denied the allegations, saying in a statement that his exchanges with the men are being taken out of context to create a false narrative.
Anderson has not responded to requests for an interview.
