TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – The city of Tallahassee gave an update on the Southside Transit Center, saying complete exterior finishes are expected this month.
This comes after a steel beam frame was installed incorrectly, causing a delay in the transit center’s construction and had to be redone. The city says crews over the summer made “great strides” in construction.
The new center sits on the corner of Orange Avenue and Meridian Street.

The city said the primary structural steel and roof systems have been completed, along with six of eight pantographic bus-charging arms and associated equipment.
Construction crews are currently working on interior framing and finishes, along with the mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems. The city says the public can expect the “installation and completion of exterior finishes” in October.
The transit center was scheduled for completion at the end of 2025 but is now expected sometime this year due to the delay.
City Commissioner Curtis Richardson previously said most bus system users are in the southside instead of downtown, where the current terminal is located, making the new center pivotal for the city.
