Republican Jacksonville Sheriff T.K. Waters intends to keep his position for another term, officially filing for reelection on Oct. 1, according to the documents submitted to the Duval County Supervisor of Elections.

The position of Jacksonville sheriff, which entails a four-year term, will be on the general election ballot on May 18, 2027. Sheriff Waters was officially sworn in as sheriff in November 2022, taking over from former Sheriff Mike Williams.

“Four years ago, I asked Jacksonville to trust me to keep our city safe, and we’ve delivered. We’ve achieved historic reductions in murders and gang-related violence, and crime is at record lows. We’ve invested in our agency, boosted officer morale and put transparency and community engagement at the forefront of everything we do,” Sheriff Waters said in a statement Thursday. “I love this city, serving it alongside the men and women of JSO is the honor of my life – and I’m not done. I’m proud to officially file for reelection because we’ve built something that works, and it’s time to finish the job.”

Only one other candidate, Donzalo Solomon, had filed as of Oct. 1. He is running without a party affiliation.

Several other elected city positions will be up for grabs in 2027, including that of mayor and all Jacksonville City Council seats.
