Roads were closed in Wilton Manors for hours after “suspicious packages” were found Friday morning at two businesses on Northeast 26th Street, police said.
The manager of a Starbucks in the 1500 block of Northeast 26th Street reported shortly before 9:30 a.m. that an unknown person left a blue duffel bag unattended on the store’s patio and that the business had received a bomb threat on Thursday, according to police radio communications archived by the site Broadcastify. All traffic was shutdown on Northeast 26th Street within half an hour.
At least one other package was reported at a nearby Truist Bank branch, according to a news release from Wilton Manors Police on Friday afternoon.
Fort Lauderdale Police’s Bomb Squad investigated, along with Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue, and determined the packages were “non-explosive,” the news release said.
The police department did not provide additional details about what was in the packages or say whether any suspect or suspects have been identified or detained.
