Suspect shot by trooper after hit-and-run in Orange County, FHP says
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. —
A Florida Highway Patrol trooper shot a suspect after responding to a hit-and-run crash Friday night in Orange County, the agency said.
The trooper responded to the crash around 9:24 p.m. on Lakeville Road, in the area of Mailler Street, FHP said in a statement, adding the suspect ran away.
While on scene, the trooper encountered the suspect, who became non-compliant, the statement reads. The trooper deployed a Taser and the suspect allegedly continued to resist, which FHP said resulted in the trooper discharging his firearm and striking the suspect.
The suspect was eventually taken into custody and was hospitalized, according to FHP. The trooper was reportedly not injured.
“As is the normal protocol for an officer involved shooting, FDLE is conducting a use of force investigation, and we will have no further comment at this time,” the statement reads.
