Giancarlo Stanton couldn’t save the Yankees in the ninth inning. Ben Rice and Cody Bellinger couldn’t, either. And so they fell to the Rays, 1-0, in Game 1 of the ALDS after Drew Rasmussen threw 7 ⅔ no-hit innings and eight shutout innings.

The Yankees finished with just one hit, a double by Austin Wells, but his brutal baserunning gaffe erased any potential for that to turn into a run. Bryan Baker pitched the ninth for the Rays to record the save. And the Yankees, after erupting for 18 runs in the wild-card series against the Red Sox, are shut out to start the next round of the postseason.

Jonathan Aranda’s home run off Gerrit Cole produced the lone run for the Rays.
