Miami, FL – Rapper Rick Ross was arrested in Miami Beach after a woman accused him of physically attacking and strangling her during an alleged domestic violence incident at his Star Island home.

Ross, whose legal name is William Leonard Roberts II, surrendered to Miami Beach police on October 1st. The 50-year-old faces felony battery by strangulation and misdemeanor battery charges, both involving domestic violence.

According to the arrest affidavit, the allegations stem from an August 28th incident involving a woman who told investigators she had been in a relationship with Ross for approximately one year.

The woman alleged Ross became angry after seeing she had been tagged in an Instagram photo and allegedly slapped her in the face.

Later that morning, Ross allegedly confronted her inside a bathroom and struck her multiple times in the chest, according to the affidavit.

The woman told police Ross allegedly restricted her breathing by grabbing and twisting the collar of her hoodie. She also accused him of grabbing her ponytail, pushing her against a wall and striking her face, causing an injury to her lip.

Ross allegedly pushed the woman to the floor before turning on the shower and attempting to spray her with water, according to investigators.

The woman later left the residence and reported the alleged incident to police September 29th.

Investigators said she provided timestamped photographs documenting injuries. Police also reviewed surveillance footage during their investigation.

Ross appeared in bond court following his arrest. His attorney entered a not guilty plea on his behalf.

A judge ordered Ross to have no contact with the woman and set bond. He was later released from custody.

Ross has publicly denied the allegations. His arraignment is scheduled for October 22nd.
