A low pressure system could form over the southwestern Gulf later this week — here’s what we know
NHC Sun AM
An upper-level low spinning over the Bay of Campeche is fueling scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms across parts of the Gulf region. That same system is also ramping up storm activity over the Isthmus of Tehuantepec in southern Mexico.
A surface trough stretches from southeast Louisiana down through the central Bay of Campeche. Winds east of that trough axis are running mostly fresh out of the southeast, while areas to the west are seeing lighter, gentler winds. Seas are generally moderate across the Gulf, with calmer 1- to 3-foot waves in the Bay of Campeche.
There’s a 30 percent development chance over the next seven days.
