CAPE CORAL, Fla. —
A Cape Coral man was arrested on Sunday after he was found asleep behind the wheel of a vehicle by deputies, who said he had a BAC nearly five times the legal limit.
According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, at around 1:30 p.m., deputies noticed a stopped vehicle near the intersection of Littleton Road and North Cleveland Avenue. Deputies observed that the driver was slumped over and not moving.
Deputies knocked on the driver’s side window, but received no response. Deputies worried the driver was experiencing a medical emergency and broke a window on the vehicle in order to reach him.
Once inside the vehicle, deputies found multiple open and empty beer cans, LCSO said. The vehicle was still in drive, and the driver, identified as Fernando Guillen Delgado, had his foot on the brake.
Guillen Delgado was awakened and transported to the hospital. There, at 4:15 p.m., Guillen Delgado’s BAC was 0.308, LCSO said. Around 30 minutes later, the level increased to 0.377.
Guillen Delgado was arrested and faces a charge of DUI. He was also cited for operating a vehicle without a valid driver’s license.
