Jacksonville’s traffic death toll nearly mirrors last year’s pace with 127 fatalities so far in 2026

  • October 5, 2026

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville’s roads remain nearly as deadly in 2026 as they were at this point last year, according to data from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Transparency Portal.

JSO data shows Duval County has recorded 127 traffic fatalities so far in 2026, compared to 130 at the same point in 2025 — a difference of just three deaths year over year. The city has also recorded 21,077 total traffic crashes in 2026 to date.

The numbers come from the JSO Transparency Portal, which tracks crash and fatality data across the city.

Earlier this year, News4JAX requested data from JSO on the city’s most dangerous intersections. The results, covering all of 2025, showed Main Street N and State Street W topped the list with 483 crashes — nearly 150 more than the second-ranked location. Blanding Boulevard and Argyle Forest Boulevard logged 337 crashes, making the busy westside corridor one of the most hazardous stretches in the city.

Jacksonville City Council has taken steps to address the danger. In January, the council approved a $6 million pedestrian safety improvement project along Bay Street near EverBank Stadium, co-funded by the Florida Department of Transportation and the Jacksonville Jaguars. The project includes raised “tabletop” pedestrian crossings designed to slow traffic.

The city is also moving forward with a $4.4 million signal improvement project at the Braddock Road and Dunn Avenue intersection — an area officials have flagged as a repeated concern — as well as a $5 million road widening project on Pecan Park Road between I-95 and Main Street.

JSO is asking anyone with information on any fatal crash to call 630-0500, submit an online crime tip at JSOCrimeTips@jaxsheriff.org or contact First Coast CrimeStoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
