OCOEE, Fla. — No arrests have been made after a shooting outside Ocoee High School following Friday night’s football game between Ocoee and Jones high schools, police said.

The Ocoee Police Department said the shooting stemmed from an altercation involving several juveniles in the parking lot after the game. During the incident, shots were fired, and the stadium was immediately placed on lockdown.

One teen was hurt. Police said the victim was not affiliated with either high school and sustained a non-life-threatening injury. The victim was released from the hospital Monday afternoon.

There is no known connection between the individuals involved, an Orange County Public Schools spokesperson said.

Bishop Kelvin L. Cobaris, a Jones High School graduate who lives in Ocoee, said he was at the game with his family when he noticed a crowd of teenagers gathering before the shooting.

“I noticed that the crowd was congregating of teams, and being with my involvement with teenagers, when I see a crowd of teenagers that are congregating, that’s a sign that conflict is on the rise,” Cobaris said. “And so, I told my son, Hey, I need you to move a little quicker. Let’s go to the other side.”

Cobaris said he called his daughter, gathered his family and decided to leave the game.

“We left the game six minutes prior to this happening,” Cobaris said. “We got home and got settled. We got a call that there was a shooting at the school. There was a fight; there was a conflict. And I just paused for a moment to thank God because we could have been caught in that crossfire just from walking out the gate.”

Cobaris said the shooting felt personal because his family had been there.

“We haven’t had a lot of these incidents in a while. We cleaned this thing up,” he said. “And for this to happen, on this Friday, it was surreal for me and became personal because my family was there,” he said.

According to OCPS, Ocoee High School was operating as normal, with no changes to scheduled activities.

“The district is grateful for the swift response of law enforcement and event personnel, whose actions helped ensure the safety of everyone in attendance,” OCPS said in a statement. “As this remains an active investigation, additional information will be shared by law enforcement as appropriate.”

Additional law enforcement could be on campus as the investigation continues, according to OCPS. Police are still looking for the person responsible.
