TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A man was sentenced to 55 years in prison on Monday for the 2023 stabbing of a construction supervisor in Hillsborough County.

In Nov. of 2023, the then 23-year-old Shamek Carter-Bowick and 34-year-old Ja’Quan Glymp entered the Easthaven development, located in the 9200 block of Rock Harbour Way.

While wearing hard hats and face masks, authorities said that the duo went inside a townhome where the victim was working on drywall.

The two men then proceeded to rob the victim and stab him to death before fleeing, the Hillsborough County State Attorney’s Office reported.

Deputies arrived to find the man seriously injured with upper body trauma and he was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Days after the stabbing, Glymp was arrested. Carter-Bowick was taken into custody in Fayetteville, North Carolina, about a month later.

The Hillsborough County State Attorney’s Office, 13th Judicial Circuit, said that the now 25-year-old Carter-Bowick was sentenced to 55 years in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree murder and other charges.

The county’s state attorney also said that jury selection is underway in Glymp’s case. If convicted he faces life in prison.
