A man being held in the Pinellas County Jail died Monday, four days after he was hospitalized after experiencing a “medical emergency,” deputies said.

James Christopher Gosselin, who turned 60 on Saturday, was taken to a hospital Oct. 1 after deputies found him experiencing “a medical emergency” at the jail, according to a news release from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office. Gosselin remained in the hospital until he was pronounced dead shortly before 4 p.m. Monday.

Gosselin had several preexisting conditions at the time of his arrest, and detectives have found no evidence that he suffered any injuries at the jail that may have contributed to his death, according to the sheriff’s office.

Gosselin was booked into the jail, at 14400 49th St. N. in Clearwater, on Aug. 12 on charges of burglary, exposure of sexual organs and resisting arrest without violence. Records show a public defender entered a plea of not guilty on his behalf, and the case was still pending at the time of his death.
