CAPE CORAL, Fla. (WINK) — A water leak that poured fresh water into a Cape Coral canal for months has been resolved.
Neighbors first brought the problem to WINK News, saying they had been reporting it for months with little progress. They claim that after WINK News aired the story, crews came and spent the weekend working on the leak.
For months, neighbors said they could hear water running day and night along Cape Coral Parkway. When WINK News visited in late September, fresh water was running continuously into the canal.
After the WINK News story aired, neighbors said they started seeing crews at the site. Crews worked through the weekend — Friday, Saturday and Sunday — to fix the leak.
“Nothing for nothing, but I can’t help but think we involved Jillian, and you know for some reason they got it done,” neighbor John Leveille said.
John Leveille said they even had their water shut off for nearly eight hours. But he said it was worth it.
“We had our water shut off for almost eight hours here, but it was worth it because now you know that there’s no wasted water or erosion on this bridge area,” Leveille said.
The sound that had become part of their daily lives is now gone.
“You know, and did come out and just for a little stroll, you’d hear the water running. Well, now you don’t hear that water running no more, and that’s a plus,” Leveille said.
While some water was still lingering around the area after the repair, the leak itself has stopped. After months of hearing that water run, neighbors say the silence is a welcome change.
