Brandon HoganORLANDO, Fla. —

A man arrested Tuesday in Orlando is accused of sexual battery against a woman who told police he attacked her that morning after threatening her with a weapon.

Gervin Jawaski Lewis, 46, faces charges of armed sexual battery, armed robbery, false imprisonment, vehicle burglary, and hindering 911 communications.

Officers responded around 5:40 a.m. to the 600 block of W. Amelia Street, where the victim reported Lewis approached her, threatened her with a weapon and assaulted her, the Orlando Police Department said in a statement.

Lewis then ran away after the attack, the statement reads.

Detectives quickly identified a vehicle associated with the case and located Lewis, detaining him a short time later, police said, adding Lewis was also found to have an outstanding warrant out of Marion County.

“Our officers acted quickly and decisively to apprehend this dangerous individual,” Orlando police Chief Eric Smith said in a statement. “Their investigative work and determination got him off our streets and demonstrate our commitment to providing the service our community deserves.”
