ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – City officials this week proposed increases to parking fines.

At the August 28 Budget, Finance, and Taxation Committee Meeting, a vote by members moved the proposal forward for the city council to discuss.

The committee approved a series of fee increases and other ordinance adjustments.

Officials indicated the fee increases align with the budget approved by the city council in September.

The fine increases vary, pending the infraction. A violation at a pay station could increase from $17.50 to $32. Other proposals indicate fine increases from $30 to $45.

The group also discussed increases to residential parking permits, adjust eligibility criteria and duration of permits. Other updated fees would include increases to downtown parking permits and removal charges for immobilized devices.

Further discussion on the proposal is set for Oct. 15.
