LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. (WINK) — Lee County commissioners approved a $1.5 million contract to pave 21.1 lane miles on currently unpaved roads throughout Lehigh Acres.

The upgrades will begin as early as next month. Lee County says 94 road segments will be included in this project.

While some of those road segments may be a few hundred feet and others longer than 1,000 feet, Lee County commissioners will continue this yearly project of paving roads throughout Lehigh Acres. The county ranks certain unpaved roads each year based on road conditions and the number of new homes constructed on that road.

Drivers told WINK News the improvements are needed as the area continues to grow and space is limited.

“In Lehigh, you can’t avoid it. There’s no way around it. You’re gonna get potholes. You’re gonna see trucks. You’re gonna see construction. You’re gonna get nails. So no matter what, roads are what they are here,” Aaron Rudrow of Lehigh Acres said.

The road paving project marks another step in addressing infrastructure needs in one of Lee County’s fastest-growing communities.
