Carson ZornLEE COUNTY, Fla. —

A man was arrested in Lee County on Tuesday after being accused of speeding at over 100 mph and resisting arrest.

According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office arrest report, at around 7:30 a.m., a deputy was traveling west on Alico Road when they noticed a Hyundai making unsafe lane changes. The driver of the Hyundai then began accelerating rapidly, swerving in and out of lanes, and passing vehicles.

The deputy sped up and reached speeds of up to 112 mph while attempting to catch up to the Hyundai, the arrest report said. A traffic stop was conducted, and the driver of the Hyundai was identified as Amezaga Benitex Maximo Alejandro, 25.

The deputy asked Alejandro to exit the vehicle, but Alejandro refused and would not get out of the car, the report said. The deputy reached into the car to try to pull Alejandro out, but Alejandro refused, clenching his arms, preventing the deputy from removing him.

At one point, Alejandro grabbed his cell phone. Afraid that Alejandro would use it as a weapon, the deputy removed the cell phone from Alejandro.

After more struggling, the deputy was able to remove Alejandro and place him under arrest.

Alejandro faces charges of super speeding and resisting an officer without violence.
