STUART, Fla. —
A Stuart sports memorabilia shop owner is searching for two high-value basketball cards that went missing during shipping from a Texas grading company.
Christopher McNulty, owner of McNulty Sports Cards and Memorabilia, said he paid $6,000 for two 1998-99 East West cards featuring Michael Jordan on the front and Kobe Bryant on the back. He sent the cards to Beckett Grading Services in Texas for professional grading, paying nearly $500 for top-tier grading and express shipping.
McNulty said the cards were tracked back to a sorting facility at DJT International Airport, but their digital trail went cold after that.
“I’ve tried to talk to Beckett. I’ve tried to talk to FedEx numerous times. FedEx takes the information I speak with, and starts over from scratch every single time with a new person,” McNulty said.
After waiting for updates, McNulty visited the Palm City facility where the cards were supposed to go next but was told the package was never received there. FedEx eventually sent him a letter stating it had exhausted its efforts to locate the cards.
McNulty said he even sent someone to Beckett’s facility in Texas to try to get answers, but he is still waiting for a resolution.
“I think it’s been, kind of a little bit of a roller coaster,” McNulty said.
Beyond the missing cards, McNulty expressed concern about the reliability of shipping, which is essential to his business.
“It’s definitely disheartening, and it leaves big question marks as to how you proceed from here,” he said.
McNulty said his best-case scenario would be for the declared value of the cards and his grading and shipping costs to be reimbursed, but he emphasized that he would rather have the cards returned.
In a statement, FedEx tells WPBF 25 News, “We understand the importance of Mr. McNulty’s shipment, and we are working directly with him to resolve the matter.”
WPBF 25 News is still waiting to hear back from Beckett.
