ATLANTIC BEACH, Fla. – Atlantic Beach crews have been clearing drainage areas and pumping water from Aquatic Pond as the city prepares for more heavy rain.
On Tuesday, heavy rainfall left standing water on Atlantic Boulevard, and East Coast Drive near the oceanfront was closed. Water on the roads reached about 12 inches, but they have since reopened.
Crews cleaned drains before this week’s rain and have continued clearing inlets, culverts and drainage swales. Pumping operations at Aquatic Pond have also been running continuously to lower water levels ahead of high tides.
Officials are monitoring known trouble spots, including Dutton Island Preserve, Mayport Road and Seminole Road, as conditions could change quickly with additional rain.
