Hurricane Isaias is expected to rapidly intensify into a strong hurricane as it approaches the Gulf coast on Friday, with the center making landfall somewhere near the Alabama-Florida border, according to Thursday morning advisories from the National Hurricane Center.
Damaging hurricane force-winds are expected over portions of the Florida Panhandle, southern Alabama and southern Mississippi, and a hurricane warning remains in effect from Ocean Springs, Mississippi to the Bay/Gulf County Line, Florida. Residents in these areas should prepare for the possibility of long-duration power outages. Heavy rainfall and storm surge are possible far from the center of the hurricane, especially to the east, forecasters said.
