Claudia Campos has been named managing director of Miami New Drama. The acclaimed not-for-profit theatre company will soon begin its 10th anniversary season embracing multilingual and multicultural theatre in Florida.

The Cuban-born Miami native who has lived in the city since she was just six years old initially envisioned a career as an actor, studying theatre at Florida State University, but as she looked for stories and roles that reflected the people and experiences that made up her own family and community, her ambitions began to shift towards directing and producing, and Campos interned at Miami New Drama in its early years.

“Claudia’s story is, in many ways, the story of Miami New Drama…She found us as a young theatre student because she recognized something in the work we were doing—a commitment to telling the stories of Miami and creating a theatre that reflected the city around us,” said Miami New Drama founder Michel Hausmann in a statement. “To have her return now, with all she has learned and experienced, and help lead the company into its next chapter is incredibly meaningful.”

Campos holds a Master’s degree in theatre management from Yale University, and has served as an apprentice at the Mellon Foundation. Now, she returns to Miami New Drama in a leadership role to usher the company into its 10th season.
