MARTIN COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) — The Martin County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public about a new fraudulent email scam.

MCSO says that a fraudulent email campaign targeting development review applicants has been going around of late. The emails request payment in varying amounts via wire transfer, appearing to impersonate legitimate County communications.

According to MCSO, these messages have been identified as likely phishing scams to get victims to send money. MCSO says that any official email from them will come from an email address ending in @martin.fl.us.

If you receive one of these emails, MCSO encourages you to verify the request directly with Martin County officials.
