The Jaguars are facing something new in London – a halftime deficit.
The Jaguars gave up their first opening half touchdown of the season and then they gave up another as they trail the Eagles 14-7 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday. A fight (and a penalty) on the opening kickoff erased a 90-yard touchdown by Josh Cameron and led to a pair of ejections.
Trevor Lawrence has thrown a 51-yard touchdown pass to Parker Washington but Jacksonville has struggled against Jalen Carter and the Eagles. Carter has sacked Lawrence twice and forced fumbles on both.
The depleted Eagles are playing without running backs Saquon Barkley and Tank Bigsby and have had major shakeups on their offensive line this week. They traded center Cam Jurgens and saw right tackle Lane Johnson retire. But they’ve found success throwing the ball against a Jaguars secondary that is missing starting safety Eric Murray.
Through the first four weeks of the season, Jacksonville outscored opponents by a combined 61-9 in the first half. The Bengals, Patriots and Broncos managed a field goal apiece against the Jaguars in the opening half this year.
Penalties still an issue
A holding call on Branson Combs wiped out a 90-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by rookie Josh Cameron. Undrafted rookie defensive end Bryan Thomas Jr. and Eagles linebacker Jeremiah Trotter Jr. were both ejected after getting into a fight on the opening kickoff.
A hold on rookie guard Emmanuel Pregnon erased a first down catch by Jakobi Meyers. Travis Hunter was flagged for pass interference on a third-and-long to give Philadelphia a fresh set of downs at the 3. Will Shipley scored on a 2-yard rush two plays later.
They come in wake of a staggering 13-penalty game against Cincinnati in Week 4.
