Several members of the WINK News team with military backgrounds are also taking part in the Honor Flight.
Collier-Lee Honor Flight is a nonprofit organization dedicated to flying local veterans from Southwest Florida to Washington, D.C., completely free of charge, to visit the memorials built in their honor.
The organization calls each journey a “One Last Mission” and says it serves as “America’s Thank You” to the men and women who served.
Founded on Sept. 25, 2013, the group completed its first flight on Nov. 9, 2013, and has been running missions ever since.
Every flight is funded entirely through donations and volunteers, with no government funding involved.
Priority is given to World War II veterans and veterans facing terminal illness.
WINK News will have full coverage on Oct. 10 as the veterans are welcomed home.
