St. Pete’s dining scene is celebrating national recognition once again as local favorite The German Knodle (951 Central Ave.) has earned a spot on a list of the Top 10 Vegan Sausages in America, just in time for Oktoberfest.

The new list, put together by PETA, named German Knodle the 5th-best spot for plant-based sausage in America, citing the variety of options available. With traditional bratwursts and sausages alongside the vegan options, it’s a perfect spot for carnivores and vegans alike to enjoy some Oktoberfest fun.

“Order the award-winning Vegan Mushroom Sausage with a side of Sauerkraut and fries,” the review recommends. “Want to add a little spice? Get the Vegan Curry Sausage, or celebrate Oktoberfest to the fullest, and get both.”

It’s no surprise that the local favorite has been highlighted in the nation’s top ten spots serving up plant-based sausages, and The German Knodle proudly made the cut alongside renowned eateries like Hollerbach’s German Restaurant in Sanford, Florida, The Vanguard Milwaukee, and Fassler Hall in Tulsa.

Located along Central Avenue, The German Knodle brings traditional Oktoberfest flavor to the Bay Area with two standout plant-based options: a savory mushroom sausage smothered in a rich, earthy sauce, and a boldly spiced curry sausage. Each dish comes paired with classic sides like tangy sauerkraut and hot, crispy fries.

“The German Knodle is serving up scrumptious, sizzling sausages that give pigs and cows something to celebrate, too, and burst with bold, plant-powered flavor,” said PETA Founder Ingrid Newkirk.

In recognition of the national accolade, The German Knodle will receive a framed award certificate to display alongside its new bragging rights.

The German Knodle is located at 951 Central Ave. in St. Petersburg and is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday.
