Orlando Sanchez talks property taxes, public safety, Flock cameras and flooding in ENOUGH sit-down

  • October 12, 2026

HOUSTON – Orlando Sanchez says he would lower Harris County’s property tax rate in his first budget if elected county judge. Still, he did not specify how much during an interview with ENOUGH.

The Republican candidate joined Stephania Jimenez to answer questions about residents’ concerns ahead of November’s election.

Sanchez and his Democratic opponent, Letitia Plummer, are participating in separate interviews with the same set of questions, each given 90 seconds to answer. Many questions came directly from viewers.

Asked what spending he would cut, Sanchez pointed to commissioners’ communications and staffing.

“For example, the billboards that they’re buying to talk about what the commissioners are doing, the slick brochures they send out every month, the 75 people they just hired in one precinct,” he said.

He did not provide individual savings estimates for those proposed cuts.

On public safety, Sanchez proposed agreements that would allow the nearest available law enforcement unit to respond to emergencies across jurisdictional boundaries. He also called for treatment for people with serious mental health needs who end up in the county jail.

Sanchez did not commit to extending or expanding the county’s Flock camera contract.

“I don’t know. I will not have a knee-jerk reaction based on what I see on the internet. I will talk to law enforcement, I will talk to citizens, and we’ll make a decision,” he said.

Sanchez said camera data should be restricted to law enforcement use in solving crimes, with no third-party sharing or sale.

For flood control, Sanchez advocated cooperation with neighboring counties and a review of project designs in light of updated flood maps.

“So our flood control problems are no longer Harris County problems; it’s a regional problem,” he said. “We have to work cooperatively and regionally.

Jimenez also asked about building community trust, working with commissioners who oppose his priorities and handling contracts involving campaign donors or political supporters.

Asked how he would respond if a major decision proved wrong, Sanchez said he would acknowledge the mistake publicly and work to correct it.

“You have to be honest with people, and you can’t hide behind a mistake,” he said.
